With over 350,000 health apps, nearly half of the Dutch population uses one or more, making health apps an integral part of modern society (Patientline, 2019). From apps developed to combat the coronavirus to those that support a healthy lifestyle, the possibilities are endless. Perhaps you have your own idea for an eHealth or health app and found your way to this article as a result. For inspiration, we are pleased to share some examples of health apps developed by DTT.
Examples of eHealth apps
Medical software and applications are often categorised under the umbrella term eHealth. eHealth contributes to supporting and improving healthcare; for example, it can optimise processes, enhance communication or increase patient safety. eHealth also ensures more accessible and higher-quality care and leads to greater self-management for patients. At DTT, we have extensive experience developing health apps, having worked with the RIVM, Erasmus MC and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Below, we provide ten examples of health apps in healthcare from DTT’s portfolio.
Compas-Y
Commissioned by the Faculty of Behavioural Management and Social Sciences (BMS) of the University of Twente, DTT developed the Compas-Y Progressive Web App (PWA). Compas-Y is designed to support newly diagnosed cancer patients. It consists of six modules spread over six weeks, with each module including reflective exercises, (psycho-educational) explanations and audio exercises. These modules help cancer patients cope with the emotional effects of a diagnosis.
Selfcare
The Selfcare app enables users to manage their health, wellbeing and vitality. This eHealth app connects to wearables and sensors to provide a comprehensive overview of the user’s health by collecting all medical, health and fitness data in one place. Selfcare integrates these measurements to identify trends and correlations between lifestyle and medical indicators, leading to unique insights into the user’s health and behaviour.
The Hospital Bed Checker
The Hospital Bed Checker was an urgent project commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport during the COVID-19 crisis. It provides visibility into Dutch healthcare capacity by displaying available hospital beds, care home beds, and A&E capacity. This PWA performs well on both mobile and desktop devices. Despite the urgency, DTT developed the solution successfully. Read the reference from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

BreathBalanz
The BreathBalanz method helps users improve their breathing pattern in 80 days. The proven training programme includes two breathing exercises per day. A balanced breathing pattern promotes better sleep and more energy. Progress is measured weekly via a Bluetooth sensor worn around the waist and is visible in the app.

JellinekMinnesota
Commissioned by Arkin, DTT developed an app together with JellinekMinnesota for former participants of the Minnesota treatment programme: the JellinekMinnesota app. It connects former patients, allowing them to encourage and support each other. Users can find a buddy, share updates, and stay connected via the app.

Doula Birth Coach
The Doula Birth Coach app was developed with leading healthcare and maternity care professionals. It offers digital support during labour and features a comforting voiceover by midwife Marijke. The app is available in eight languages and is highly rated by users and recommended by the midwives at Amsterdam Birth Centre. The app was named a trusted app by the Journal for Midwives.

Erasmus MC Clinical Challenge app
The Erasmus MC Clinical Challenge app allows medical students to practise physical examinations and diagnosis skills. The app includes multiple-choice questions and video clips. At the end of each case, students receive a score that they can compare with previous results and those of peers. The app was developed in close collaboration with Erasmus MC.

E-Moodboard app
The E-Moodboard app offers a safe space for exploring emotions. Users can create moodboards based on their feelings, promoting emotional awareness. These moodboards can be shared, and the app can identify behavioural patterns. If users wish to take action, the app provides sharing options and a list of helpful organisations.
iProvèn eHealth app
The iProvèn eHealth app was developed in collaboration with Masena Invest, whose mission is to support global health through quality medical products. The app connects via Bluetooth to a thermometer and blood pressure monitor and syncs with a patient monitoring system, giving doctors easy access to patient data and improving care quality.
Not So Bad After All app
The Not So Bad After All app was developed with Professor Bohlmeijer, a mental health promotion expert at the University of Twente. It encourages users to shift focus to the positive aspects of life and trains gratitude through daily exercises. Users can add gratitude photos and receive a daily inspirational quote on gratitude.
