Where can I find a hospital bed right now?

During the coronavirus crisis, it quickly became clear that hospital capacity wasn’t always sufficient. In collaboration with the Ministry of VWS, we developed ziekenhuisbedchecker.nl under intense time pressure — a solution that provides a real-time overview of all available hospital beds across the Netherlands. This way, doctors, hospital staff, and ambulance teams can immediately see where a patient can receive care.

A solution that immediately supports healthcare

For one intense week (or rather: a short sprint), we worked day and night alongside the Ministry of VWS on a digital solution that directly addressed the needs of the healthcare sector. At every step, we aligned closely with the Ministry, offering insights to support well-informed decisions. As a result, we succeeded in delivering a scalable solution in record time (within just four days) that offered immediate relief to an overburdened system — and continues to do so.

Fewer calls, faster care

Ziekenhuisbedchecker.nl is available as an app on mobile and tablet, as well as on desktop and laptop. This ensures that as many healthcare professionals as possible can access it. Thanks to integration with zorg-capaciteit.nl and Stichting NICE, the platform offers a real-time overview of available beds in the region — including emergency care beds. As a result, ziekenhuisbedchecker.nl helps reduce unnecessary calls, ambulance trips, paperwork, and delays, ensuring that urgent care remains accessible to everyone.
